When choosing a family photographer, keep in mind that your pictures, as well as those of your children, will likely be posted on a website, Facebook page or instagram site alongside your photographer’s other work. If your photographer is known for suggestive photography, this can be a concern.
If you are someone who is concerned with the proximity of your family’s photos to R- or X-Rated content, be sure to check your photographer’s website and instagram.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions! What other content do you shoot? And where will my child’s picture live and be posted in the future?
Be mindful that before your photoshoot, photographers normally have you sign a model release which allows your photographer to use your images, normally into perpetuity. You are literally giving them permission to use your photos for advertising, as stock photos, etc.
By carefully choosing your family photographer, you are making sure that your child’s photos are going to be used in safe places online, and you are helping to ensure that their internet presence is in line with the values that you are teaching at home!
